WELCOME TO POST 39
The American Legion Taylor, TX Post 39 was organized on September 3, 1919 with Dan Moody as its first commander. Daniel James Moody Jr. (June 1, 1893 – May 22, 1966), was a Democratic political figure, originally from Taylor, Texas. He notably served as the 30th Governor of Texas between 1927 and 1931. At the age of thirty-three, he was elected and took office as the youngest governor in Texas history.
Post 39 was named after Graham Luhn, a Taylor man who after getting his military training at Texas A&M joined the National Guard and was then called into active service as a 1st Lieutenant in the 36th "Lone Star" Division. He died at the Meuse-Argonne, and the French recognized his services by posthumously awarding him the Croix de Guerre.
